| Having had a personal lay-off racing to support my sons racing, I've been looking for something more local for a while and dont fancy 1300s or going back to Bombers due to time constraints to keep building them.
I understand GT Rods are akin to Hot Fords rather than Rookirods in terms of presentation and driver experience (?), but what is a realistic budget to build a GT Rod? For those who know me, you'll know I know Buxton HF/RR's very well !! I've read the spec and it seems to be pretty much cost wise to be the same as a HF. Am I correct? or are they more StockRod?
I keep hearing that they are considerably dearer eg need a Lyndale engine, loads of race goodies, etc but the spec reads more like "standard" (apart from Kirkey seat & control tyres) Its not very clear what budget may be required to be competitive. Can someone enlighten me as this will help me to decide whether to join the Startrax ranks (or NOT!)
Many thanks

| You don't need a Lyndale engine - certainly not for shale - which is the greatest of levellers! and you have Cov,Stoke,BV and Sheff to choose from! Skegness is tarmac however the rules are designed for `budget' and engines are subject to strict scrutineering / spot checks. There were one or two Skeggy GT Rod drivers watching yesterday and we can put you in touch for more advice if you require.
It is designed to be economic but open up the variety of venues and championships etc.
Let's not get hooked up on a Hot Ford v GT Rod debate as that has been had - respectfully.

| Thanks Steve. Yes please I would appreciate to be put in touch with a few chaps. Don't worry I wasn't planning to get into a debate. Simply making an informed business decision based on firm financial facts as you can appreciate. Startrax would suit me fine beisng based in Stockport believe me! Thanks again
Oh and cheers for your input Ketchy.

| Thanks Frankie. It's sounding better already. It's useful to hear from the horses mouth so to speak. I was Buxton Hot Ford rep for about 8 years and always pushed to keep costs down. I also like the idea of a lighter car on my truck too. When I bring my sons National bangers to Skeggy I have to put all spares n tools in a trailer to keep within weight. Thanks again. Cheers Gruff. |
