Excellent meeting last night, wall to wall stock cars!

I thought the Spede-loons were fantastic and really suited the vue. 15 cars were plenty for the track, great fast racing/action in every race.

There was some talk about setting up the formula in the North a few years ago, didnt FWS offer to build cars? What a shame Buxton went down the 1300's route, if a few Northern tracks got together to launch the formula, I'm sure it could be a great domestic class up here.

What does everyone else think?

Having seen the 1300's at Scunny, I was very impressed with them.

My opinion is that I'd like to see Startrax a loon class next season and think that the 1300's would fit the bill.

With Dave P getting them started at Bucky and running at places like Scunny, they could grow here in the North with the inclusion of a few more fixtures on the loose with Startrax, this could well assist that growth.

A good cheap class with a good support basis across the M62 corridor supported by all northern promotions would be no bad thing in my book.

Fair point Wolfy, and now 1300 ball is rolling in the North, that would have to be the way to go i guess. I may be wrong, but dont the speedloons come in cheaper than the 1300's? And with them being a "big car" formula 15 around BV is plenty, would 15 1300's fit that bill? I havent seen the 1300's on shale.

Not sure Wildy re costs of a 1300 against a Spudworth 2litre loon. That said
the 1300's were well supported at Scunny.

I don't see any ground in trying to get the Spudworth's up on a regular basis given the distances most drivers had to travel to race yesterday.

If you're looking to organicaly grow a cheap saloon stock car class, then in my opinion, the 1300 class fits the bill.

As mentioned previously, Bucky have started the class there and if Startrax were to look at putting this formula on at their events, then it seems logical to look to assist this class by giving them some dates either at BV or Owlerton.

If Scunny run 'em again in 2010, then it may well encourage more drivers in the North if they see some stability in a few dates at northern venues

Out of interest, how are the 1300's coming along at Buxton? I think they run together with the Formula ministox? Which i think is why Buxton opted for 1300s, ie similar size/weight etc, although i might be wrong on that?

Wolfy, it would be just as much a treck for many of the East Anglian 1300 drivers as the spedeworth lads to get to BV. Sheffield has potential, but I dont see either class travelling very often, given the amount of meetings trackstar give 1300s. I just think if a few northern tracks had got together and gone the spedeworth route an embionic domestic scene could have emerged, like i say 15 cars was fine around BV, and then championships together with the southern drivers could have developed. I like the spedeloons because they are like the saloons i used to watch as a kid, rather than the nascar-esqe national saloons. Back to basics.

I do agree though that a saloon formula is great idea for the north, which ever form it takes. Very Happy

the 1300s at buxton are progressing slowly, they have now broken away from having to race with the formula minis and there are always a couple of visitors from skegness, cars are being bought and drivers are building cars as well so 2010 will see many more cars competing

as for 1300's on shale, I am told they are very good at kings lynn, I saw them at scunthorpe at the opening meeting and there were plenty of cars and some brilliant racing from them, I think even Mr Rees liked them!!

Vid of 1300s at scunthorpe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0gXLQRneSs I will never make a good cameraman but its a good enough clip for you to get the feel of the formula

Cheers for the info. They certainly look good around Scunny, hope they are a sucess at High Edge. The North needs a domestic saloon formula, I used to love them at Buxton in the 80's, BH mondays when the Scots came out to play! Fingers crossed it works out.
