Went to Sheffield on Sunday. Not seen racing like that for a long time both the one's and the two's were teriffic. The track was in superb condition and there seemed to me to be a fair crowd. Well done to Steve and all the Startrax crew. How the fence managed to sustain itself for so long with the battering it got was amazing.

For me that meeting encapsulates why I love Sheffield. The racing was flat out, foot-to-the-floor, all action with some of the top boys really dishing it out in both classes. The fence did cause a few delays but given some of the punishing hits it took, I'm not really suprised.

What a shame then, given the action yesterday, that we'll only get two F1 dates in 2010, but given the apathy on both sides of the fence to a couple of dates this year, it comes as no surprise really. I suppose those of us who love the place should be greatfull it's two dates and not zero.

Still, I can get my South Yorks fix with the bangers next year, as well.

Have to agree, Sheffield was real stock cars for me. Likewise with the WCQR in May, its flat out, borderline mad, the speed the cars get up to there, and to me it looked even narrower than before, perhaps as I'd been to Scunthorpe the previous evening, and Owlerton looked far less forgiving!! Agree with Wolfysmith that 2 dates for F1s is a shame, but maybe Steve thinks quality rather than quantity, and a qualifier then a semi final, should be must see meetings next season.

As Steve has said, it's the cost of hiring the stadium, city centre tracks are expensive to hire and poor Steve has two of um. And both miss out on the Saturday night slot, Sheffield under lights is what Stock cars are all about.
Sheffield, like Scunny, is unique, and we're lucky it's still on the fixture list for next year ( I think, Steve? ), and if the improvements to fence - pits continue, who knows?
Still have a dream of a W/F in a modern Sheffield.

This mileage wise is possibly my nearest track, and i have seen far to many Sheffield meetings -including Christmas to know where to start.
I for one was in attendance on Sunday and i was very dissapointed with the crowd ,given it was half term. I know in life we have no choice but to move on, but Sheffield meetings nowadays are no longer what they used to be. Where do i start- we had drivers on a Monday night in the late seventies and eighties coming from all over to contest 3 heats , consolation, grand final, grand national. The bars all around the stadium were open all the time , unlike the Sportsmans Bar now. You were allowed to stand on the back straight all the time. So whats the problem now!.
Cant be Health and Safety on the back straight because mechanics ,drivers, families stand in one section, i can also see the economical side of shutting the Tavern bar if you have to pay staff and there aint alot of paying customers. The pits have been a problem for along time ,but no worse than Belle Vue. These were going to be sorted a year ago according to the powers that be. The main reason for lack of drivers to me is the three wire rope fence, but like ive already stated it was there in the seventies and eighties and they still got the crowds / drivers. To lose this fine stadium would be in my opinion one of the worst things that could happen to Brisca for years. I do not possess to be a businessman, but i do know that if things do not sort themselves out at Owlerton and quickly then im afraid we could loose it. I wish Steve Rees and all connected with Sheffield well, and i dont know what the answers are.
Brisca F1 fans are always reliant on car numbers, top names at all meetings, good catering and staduim facilities, most of these are met by Sheffield, but over the last few seasons car numbers and crowd are well short of whats needed to survive. By the way i dont agree with Sheffield being selected for F1 semi in 2010 , just my personal opinion.

I do think memory affects the mind - Sheffields golden era was 1976 and 1977 after which it declined alarmingly due to the infamous fence, late running Monday nights and then because it could only get just enough for TWO heats added F2's - a matter of correctness - I know I raced some of them!
By the 80's the stadium management gave up with stock cars and passed it on to the consortium who folded in the 80's before we revived it in 1996.

Sunday's crowd was excellent at around 1600 [ granted the place wil hold several thousand! ] -

Superb meeting and than you erveyone for making the effort.

The various HSE issues have long been discussed and aired it would be weary to revisit that thread.

An excellent fillip to the season finale - and a great audience in the real world.

I really enjoyed Sheffield on Sunday. Excellent fast heavy racing from the 36 F1’s in attendance. I thought prior to the meeting that Sheffield could be pivotal in deciding who wins the Shoot Out and I think this could turn out to be true.
The sections of track with the additional ropes design really does seem to be working well; credit is due to those who have worked hard to bring this to fruition. Working towards having the whole track with the additional ropes can only be a benefit and this improvement I hope will be met with approval from fans and drivers.
The Startrax programme is always worth purchasing with plenty to read between races.
Sunday saw Sheffield back to its best and the 2 meetings next year have to be “must do” meetings.
