| I have recently read a post on the " Stoxnet " forum regarding a meeting at Scunthorpe regarding a proposed plan for F1 stockcars to make a return in the future there?. Is this a possibility or is it a case of rumours again?. Are you involved Steve in anyway , and can you shed any light on this topic. |

Have a look at the topic again, there is a scan of the article form the local paper together with a few pics of Falding, Wainman & Johnson sideways around the venue.
From the article it's clear that the promoter of the speedway is keen to introduce Stock Cars for next season as a way to boost revenues. The article suggests that Satudrday nights are preferred.
As to how far this has progressed in terms of planning permission plus costs of installing fencing etc remains to be seen. Also, it's unclear if Scunny plan to promote themselves or lease to a promoter. Also, it's unclear if there are costs involved in getting this project off the ground then who Scunny is expecting to foot the bill - them or the promoter willing to take on promotion?
One curious thing, a statement from the BSCDA asks for this to be kept low key but yet this has been publicised by the promoter through the local paper _________________ That waskly wabbit |

| No we are not involved although we looked at this site at a similar time to speedway.
The speedway promoter is keen to have stock cars at Scunthorpe to provide revenue for the speedway club - and has for some time. Earlier this year he raised the subject in Speedway Star and a request for a test was organised.
As the BSCDA statement says, it is very, very early days and will be discussed at the next MB / BriSCA promoters meeting.
We are actively involved in two other projects, both in the North West, one, both or neither may happen -but whatever, will take 2-3 years but will be purpose built.
We are also actively keeping our eyes open for developments in Hull, things are happening - and we are extremely keen to get racing going in Hull, possibly if the opportunity arose, with a resurrected Vikings Speedway set up.
As many will know we made a lot of progress with Craven Park only for the Rugby club to be promoted to Super League, necessitating the track be removed! |

| Would love to see the Stock Cars at Scunthorpe
I know that a lot of things have to fall into place for it to happen.. But fingers crossed.
Good luck with the two projects you are working on Steve hope your hard work pays off. |

Oh Steve I do wish you wouldn't throw these teasers in like that Would one of these possible venues, should it happen, be the replacement for Derwent Park by any chance ? Just asking out of interest and not counting my chickens etc
Hull would be superb for us, its just down the road - OK its the M62 but its still pretty close in travelling time. That would be three local tracks then - B.V. Hull and Sheffield - all just down the road LOL |

| Could you imagine if all these tracks came to fruition? We'd be looking at a northern scene with possibly four shale venues (Owlerton, BV, Scunny and Hull) together with a couple of other venues (that Steve has hinted at) that could either be tar or shale.
Personally, I hope that Scunny does come off. This would be a massive boost to shale racing in general and strengthen the nortern stox scene further. _________________ That waskly wabbit |

| | Are you sure its not gonna be just another shale track that gets 20-30 cars. Seems shale racing is in terrible decline. Look at Cov even last night, 63 cars i believe and looking at some of the entrants i bet there werent any reserves left even if they wanted to race and this is at a track where 3 years ago they were getting 80+ cars at F1 only meetings. |

I think your looking at this the wrong way. Another shale track will encourage more drivers to race shale as there would be more venues and meetings available through the season to do so.
As for Coventry, don't they have a ceiling on bookings of up to 60 cars plus reserves? _________________ That waskly wabbit |

| Its not exactly something to trouble Jeremy about but looking at the amount of Whites racing the other day i would say that there was nobody left on the reserve list! Still not sure how Scunny will get more people to race shale, where are the more drivers going to come from exactly. Im all for a new track but as you can see over the last few years "new" tracks get "few" drivers, im all for Scunny though but the drivers say they have enough meetings already so who exactly is going to give up their meeting once a month to allow Scunny to run? Ask Steve if he will give up a meeting !!! Im sure it will be fine if its say added at the end of the month maybe after Kings Lynn. |

I'd say it's on the up slightly anyway. Another shale track will encourage a few more drivers to give it a shot, and breaking into North Lincolnshire will persuade a few new names out on track. The area is already served by Blyton and Brampton, so there are oval racing drivers close by who don't have a BriSCA racing regularly (Sheffield being the local track with just a few meetings a year) enough to make them consider it as an option.
The decline in shale venues has seen the driver numbers drop, with many switching to tar only. I've said it before, but Skeggy moving back to tar was a double blow to shale racing - one less shale track and one more tar track in one fell swoop. A replacement is still desparately needed. Having said all that, I'm not convinced that Scunny is a long term solution - the speeway promoter seems to be keen to get the stock cars on, but simply as a revenue stream for the speedway. Without some commitment to stox, as soon as the speedway fans complain about a dodgy track we'll be out of the door. That's if it ever happens at all... |
